This is the ‘must see’ colonial center of Quito which was declared Cultural Patrimony of Mankind by UNESCO due to its incredibly well conserved buildings and squares. It is one of the biggest historical centers of Latin-America, full of churches, museums, squares, cultural centers, tourist information centers and restaurants. You can visit for instance: “Palacio de Carondelet” (Presidential Palace) and if you are lucky you can witness some official act as the change of guards or a speech of the Ecuadorian president from its balcony or visit one of the many interesting museums and convents as San Francisco, Museo de la Ciudad, Museo del Alabado, Museo de Mena Caamano, etc. Recently the Historic Center has been fully restored and one of its attractions is the illlumination at night, which can be comfortably observed galloping through the streets by carriage. From Hostal Villa Nancy:
The well known equator monument, a small touristic village with several museums, shops and a square where shows of music and dance performances take place on weekends. A very nice and interesting museum on the side of the village, Inti-Nan, proofs by various tests to be on the Ecuator line. Closeby lies the inhabited crater of Pululahua, where several excursions can be made either by car, foot or on horseback. From Hostal Villa Nancy:
Great for a sunny morning or afternoon, a ride up the Pichincha volcano takes you to 4050 mtr and displays amazing views over the capital of Ecuador and the surrounding mountain range with several snow capped volcanoes. Also great for hiking and for those who like to climb the Pichincha volcano. From Hostal Villa Nancy:
This is the most touristic area of Quito, with all necessary infrastructure as hotels, internet cafes, bars, disco’s, museums, souvenir shops, travel agencies etc. The main square is also known as “Plaza Foch” or “La Zona” and offers a great ambiance with a great variety of culinary choices. From Hostal Villa Nancy:
Very close to the hotel is the neighbourhood called Guapulo, characterized by its bohemian athmosphere with nice little bars and restaurants and its beautiful church ‘Santuario de Guapulo’. From here you have beautiful views over the eastern valleys of Quito. From Hostal Villa Nancy:
At the end of the famous Amazonas Avenue is the El Ejido par, where you will find fine art and paintings, as well as traditional and folkloric pieces made by local artists. El Ejido combines the charm of the ancient and modern city in one place. During the weekend you can enjoy the little handicraft market offering paintings, jewelry, ponchos, vests, handicrafts, among other innovations. From Hostal Villa Nancy:
Quito has many cultural centers as the Casa de la Cultura, Casa de Musica, Teatro Sucre, Teatro Bolivar and more where many cultural events take place, you can always enquire with us to check whether a nice event is taking place for a pleasant night out. |
